Any San Diego Chargers fans out there? I know I am one! Since the day I learned about football, I have been a fan of those boys. It’s sad, really… I get game updates on my phone since I don’t watch TV. Anyway, to the point. If you are a fan, you have probably heard what is going on. If you are not a fan… you have probably still heard what is going on. If you have not heard, let me brief you. Chargers Linebacker Shawne Merriman got arrested this week. His girlfriend, reality TV actress and Playboy model, Tila Tequila, accused him of choking and restraining her (battery and false imprisonment). He apparently choked her and then threw her to the ground while she was trying to leave his house in Poway (a little town about twenty minutes north of downtown San Diego)… and his attorney is claiming that Merriman was acting in an attempt to keep his girlfriend safe. The actual reasoning behind his attack is still up in the air, but Tequila was taken to the hospital. It could have been because she had been drinking and he did not want her to leave in the state she was in. However, that still is not an excuse for choking and throwing someone to the ground. There are other ways to get people to stay inside, many of which do not involve violence.
In any event, this just goes to show that fear can cause people to do outrageous things. We need to make sure that we can handle something like that, should it occur.
