Why do you like living in America? Many people will answer this question with a simple, “Because we have freedom.” Others take a little longer to spit it out. They usually say something like, “The United States is the best country in the world!” When pushed further to find out why they think this is the best place to live, they answer just like the first group of people. Freedom is what makes the United States so wonderful. We even have a slogan, branding us “The Land of The Free.”
In fact, freedom was such a precious thing to our Founding Fathers that they left their home country and wrote and signed a document about its importance. Lack of freedom caused these men to pack up their families and flee overseas. If this freedom is something that created this country and is something that has worked brilliantly over the last couple hundred years, why would anyone want to start taking it away? Isn’t that just a back step into what our Founding Fathers were trying to save us from?
The first Ten Amendments to the United States Constitution are something really special: The Bill of Rights. These ten rights were created as the ten most important freedoms; ten rights that cannot and will not be taken away from citizens. Things like Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Religion are included among this list, along with a very important one to me: The Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Right now, our current government, along with many of its supporters, is trying to get this right revoked. This is kind of a scary thought, considering the fact that one of the reasons the Right to Keep and Bear Arms was claimed in the first place was to protect us from the government. Government officials are smart! Get the guns out, and there is less of a chance people can protest against you! Let’s wake up and be smart, too.
I agree that people that don’t know how to use a gun should not be using them. Guns are dangerous when placed in untrained hands.
