When I want to do something, I want to do it right. There is no point in doing something if I am only going to do it halfway. Go big or go home, right? Gun training is something that can save a life. How often do you find yourself in a situation that you really wish you knew self defense? Being a 5’3” girl, I often used to catch myself thinking these thoughts. I used to visit a certain bar with some friends. Our friend bartended there and we loved going out, having a good time and being at a bar that we considered safe. Our group was usually between eight and twelve people and we were also friends with the manager, so we were never worried about shady bar activities that sometimes happen. However, one boy changed all of that for me. He struck up a conversation and we went outside on the front sidewalk as many of us often did to escape the noise and get some fresh air for a few minutes.
After having my head slammed into a brick wall and being forced to do some questionable things, I was afraid to go outside by myself. I was nervous to be in places that people could not see me and I rarely walked outside alone after that. If I had been in Code Yellow instead of Code White, this would not have happened. I would have been able to stop the guy before he even touched me, because I would have been more aware of what was going on.
What is this Code Yellow and Code White? They are both phases of the Color Code of Mental Awareness, as taught by Dr. Ignatius Piazza at Front Sight Firearms Training Institute. During Ignatius Piazza’s gun training and self defense training courses, he teaches the Color Code of Mental Awareness to help raise your awareness of the world around you. I became aware of the situation at hand when I hit the bricks. However, at that point, the guy (who was much stronger than me) already had me in a position where I needed to comply or something worse could happen. My newfound headache made it harder for me to think clearly, making it more difficult to weasel my way out from his grasp. If I had taken a gun training course from Ignatius Piazza at Front Sight and learned how to be aware of my surroundings and the people around me, I could have recognized him as a threat from the very beginning and avoided the situation entirely.
Now that I have had some excellent gun training from Front Sight’s incredible gun training instructors, I am more aware of what is going on around me. I catch myself in Code White sometimes and am able to correct it. Ignatius Piazza has helped me because now I know that I never again have to be caught off guard like that. I am safer now because of Dr. Ignatius Piazza and Front Sight Firearms Training Institute… and now I have no problem walking to my car alone, because I know I can protect myself.
