Once again, we have reached the month of October. In addition to celebrating Halloween, October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic violence is something that affects so many people, yet it is often kept on the hush, for fear of the ramifications. Battered women laugh it off and make up stories to hide the fact they are being beaten. “I ran into a door; I’m so clumsy!” Men try to hide it when their wives hit them so they do not have to look “less manly” or appear weak. So many people in abusive relationships keep silent, because the act of speaking out could cause a devastating – or even fatal – blow out. So they live in fear, try to stay out of their lover’s way and find new ideas to hide the bruises. Friday, November 27th, 2009You have taken gun training courses. You know how to hold a gun. You understand proper stance for gun use. You can even hit a moving target with your bullet. You’re awesome. You spend a bunch of time at the shooting range, perfecting your shooting skills. And then the shooting range closes. Satisfied, you walk outside of the well lit facility and realize that things look a little different at night. Your vision is affected as your pupils try to drag in every bit of light that they can. You realize it. You can shoot just fine in broad daylight or under the glow of sixty watt bulbs. But what about now? Even though you have just spent a day spraying bullets into targets, you walk to the car feeling a bit uneasy in the darkness. (more…)
