Senator Against Early Release of Prisoners

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Senator Tom Harman, like many Americans, is against the proposed early release of prisoners program. He focuses on the drastic measures that California is taking when it comes to prisoner release. California currently has tough on crime laws, and since they started, violent crime in the state has decreased measurably. In addition, law enforcement officers and law enforcement programs in California oppose the prisoner early release program. Senator Tom Harman quotes on his website, “We should not care more about the comfort and well-being of the prisoner than the safety of our neighborhoods. Crime goes up in neighborhoods to which criminals are paroled.” He is concerned for good reason that the safety of the law abiding citizens of California and other states is being put at a substantial risk. To protect yourself and to protect your family from these risks, get yourself gun training from Dr. Ignatius Piazza at Front Sight Firearms Training Institute. Front Sight has a self defense training course for everyone in your family, from adult gun training to gun training for teens. Gun training for women is also available. Your children can benefit from a child safety course or a youth safety course at Front Sight. Any gun training course or self defense training course at Front Sight will leave you with safety techniques that will protect you and your loved ones from the dangers that are to come when more and more prisoners start roaming through your neighborhood. Budget Cuts – Are You Safe? Get Gun Training!

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Throughout the United States, people are being faced with tough decisions due to the obvious downfall of the economy. Employees are being laid off, as I am sure you are aware. But what you might not know is that some of the employees being laid off are prison employees. Prisons are already overcrowded, so a decrease in prison employees is going to make things even worse! Except, of course, for the fact that states are contemplating (and some already enacting) a prisoner early release program. I have brought this fact up to many of my friends, and I usually get the same response. “Well, yeah… but they are releasing only nonviolent criminals.” Um… not so much. Take Arizona, for example. If the state agencies have to reduce their budgets (it is looking like it is going to be cut by $153 million), violent criminals will be released early, as well as the nonviolent ones. How many? Possibly thousands. Arizona is proposing the early release of thirteen thousand criminals. Have you heard of “mandatory time served” when it comes to prison sentencing? It means that if someone gets sentenced to ten years, they only have to serve, say seven or eight before they are eligible for parole. But now, even the most serious felons in Arizona are benefiting from the budget cut, because the mandatory time served is being reduced to only fifty percent! The director of the Department of Corrections in Arizona said, “Rewriting the criminal code and releasing thousands of prisoners is neither realistic nor in the best interest of public safety. Releasing thousands of prisoners because of the budget deficit will place the public at risk and is akin to turning our back on the law-abiding citizens of Arizona.” (more…)

Gun Training for Trying Times

Monday, December 21st, 2009

People usually get arrested for a reason, right? Once they are arrested, they are ordered to appear in court and defend their position, either resulting in a verdict of innocence or a conviction of guilt. They get sentenced to a certain amount of time in jail or prison, depending on their crime and the effects of the crime. Now, in many states, those sentences are being slashed, because it costs a lot of money to keep convicts in prison. States are saying they just do not have enough money. Over the next three years, California will release about fifty five thousand prisoners. Kentucky has released over a thousand already and have taken fifteen hundred off parole. Nevada is proposing the closure of Nevada State Prison. These are scary thoughts to the law abiding citizens of America, considering that several states are planning these prisoner early release programs. It has started already and it will only continue. In your life, what happens now? Do you let the economy dictate your safety? You do not have to! Is the ERD Changing in Your State? Protect Yourself.

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

What is an ERD? ERD stands for Earliest Release Date… the date that a prisoner has finished his or her minimum prison sentence. Minimum sentence will soon be as little as fifty percent of the original sentence. That means if someone gets arrested for a crime against you and gets sentenced to ten years in prison, after five years, they could be free to go. The ERD is changing in many states due to budget cuts and a declining economy in the United States. California, Arizona, Nevada, Kentucky, Michigan, New York and other states are planning on an early release of prisoners to help their states save some cash. Many people are against this prisoner early release program, including judges, law enforcement, state prosecutors and victim advocate groups. They say they are putting the law abiding citizens at risk by putting convicted felons back at arm’s reach. How do you feel about it? Is there someone in your life that has been affected by a crime, and their attacker is now in prison? How will you feel when they get released? (more…)
