I was asked where I got my gun training. Apparently, the girl first asked one of my guy friends about gun training. Knowing how well I shoot (all humility aside, of course) he directed her to me. I told her I got my gun training from Front Sight Firearms Training Institute. When she asked me where Front Sight was located, I told her it is about an hour away from Las Vegas in Pahrump, Nevada. She seemed a bit confused as to why I would go that far to get gun training when there are plenty of places to shoot and get trained here in California. Let me tell you, it is so easy to explain why… and the girl started her own further research on attending Front Sight.

The gun training instructors were strict on gun safety and technique, but they did it in a way that was friendly and encouraging, so we didn’t feel like we had boot camp drill sergeants for instructors. There are a lot of people that get gun training. This “gun training” often consists of going out the the desert with a friend or a family member, picking up a gun and shooting stuff. That’s what my first lesson in using a gun was like. I was in the desert, my friend’s dad handed me a shotgun and told me to “hold here with your left hand and use your right hand to pull the trigger. Okay go ahead and shoot.” I shot two bullets at the dirt, one at a beer can and then five at clay pigeons. Eight bullets. How can anyone feel comfortable with a gun after shooting eight shots
Some people get gun training by going to a shooting range with some people, where they get to shoot at some targets on the wall for a couple hours. Some people even attend a gun training school and actually learn how to properly hold a gun before they shoot it. Then they spend some time shooting and go home.

The prisoners of Illinois have started being released from prison early. The process of releasing these prisoners will continue over several weeks, eventually totaling about one thousand released inmates, which is on the light end if you compare it to the rest of the country. Virginia is another state that is ‘only’ planning on releasing about one thousand prisoners. New York is proposing an early release of sixteen hundred, Kentucky plans on two thousand, and California is going to release about fifty five thousand over the next few years. No, I did not type that wrong. I did not mean fifty five hundred. I meant fifty five thousand. Scary! Also, California is planning on reducing the parole population to further save money for the state. Seventy thousand parolees will soon be let off parole. Ohio’s prison system was built to hold thirty six thousand inmates, but currently holds fifty two thousand. Many states are promising that “only non violent criminals will be released,” but in states like Kentucky, even murderers made the early release list. In addition to letting prisoners out of custody early and reducing parole populations, prisons will be less guarded, as thousands of prison employees are being let go.

What is an ERD? ERD stands for Earliest Release Date… the date that a prisoner has finished his or her minimum prison sentence. Minimum sentence will soon be as little as fifty percent of the original sentence. That means if someone gets arrested for a crime against you and gets sentenced to ten years in prison, after five years, they could be free to go. The ERD is changing in many states due to budget cuts and a declining economy in the United States. California, Arizona, Nevada, Kentucky, Michigan, New York and other states are planning on an early release of prisoners to help their states save some cash. Many people are against this prisoner early release program, including judges, law enforcement, state prosecutors and victim advocate groups. They say they are putting the law abiding citizens at risk by putting convicted felons back at arm’s reach. How do you feel about it? All over the country, prisoners are being released early due to a new prisoner early release program designed to save America money. Prisons are becoming overcrowded and America is trying to cut budget costs wherever they can. Apparently, letting prisoners out of confinement seems to be a great idea to some officials. In Florida, almost four thousand inmates are expecting to be released. This program is not supported by a variety of groups, including the Department of Corrections. Most states are claiming that only non violent prisoners are going to be released, but not all states are complying with this, which is rather frightening. When criminals get out of jail, they are usually subject to things like probation or parole, and are court ordered to attend certain correctional programs. However, these cost money, too. In addition to releasing prisoners early, many states are also cutting programs for freed inmates, such as drug rehabilitation programs and other self help courses, meaning criminals are less likely to learn the skills they need to learn to become a productive member of society.
