In April of 1996, something happened that would change the world. It would make this a safer place for us to live, and offer clear explanations to one of the great controversies we have dealt with for decades. This controversy is, at present time, our guaranteed right, as stated by the United States Constitution. However, as some people see it their job to rewrite something that has worked for us for centuries, our right to keep and bear arms just might be imposed upon sooner than we thought. I guess the words “shall not be infringed” don’t mean much to certain politicians.

How many people do you know that steal music on a regular basis? Outlawing guns will only disarm the law abiding citizens. And, it’s a fact that a criminal is more likely to attack an unarmed person than an armed one. Why would a rapist try to rape a gun toting woman?
Gun control does not mean crime control. All it does is put us at danger and infringe upon our freedoms. I was approached yesterday at dinner with a disappointing standpoint from someone very close to me. We were talking about the different gun laws in different states, concealed carry law and open carry laws. He said, “You know what is interesting is in places where guns are not allowed, there is less crime.”
My response? “That is absolutely not true. In fact, it has been proven time and time again that places with strict gun control laws actually had crime rise when the laws were put into action. Think about it this way. Criminals and bad guys are going to have a gun, whether it is against the law or not. They are criminals and breaking a gun control law does not really matter to them. But now, instead of having a gun to protect themselves and their families, the law abiding citizens have to fight against these armed bad guys empty handed. Gun control does not lower the crime rate; it just puts the innocent people in more danger.”
Eventually, he said, “Don’t get me wrong. I believe in guns and think that people should be able to own them. I own several guns. But it’s these people that go around using them that don’t actually know HOW to use them properly that make it dangerous for the rest of the country. Guns are dangerous. But they are very useful if you know what you are doing with them.”
I was glad he had that point of view about the importance of gun training. I responded, “I agree completely that people need to get gun training if they want to own guns. But the idea of gun control reducing crime is not accurate. That is more of the issue in the places that want gun control. It’s not gun control that they need. It’s gun training.”
As described in “More Guns, Less Crime (Again) in 2008,” there have been a lot of gun control laws that have been changed or taken away completely in this country. As a result, even though gun control supporters feared the worst, violent crime has been declining and even reached a 35 year low in 2008. The murder rate was even more impressive, and these statistics have been credited to less gun control. Our Founding Fathers had a dream for us. Before breaking away from the lives they were brought up to know and claiming beautiful independence, they did not have the freedoms that they wanted. Coming to America as adults, they only got to live with these newfound freedoms for a short time. Because of them, as law abiding citizens, we have the opportunity to live with the freedoms we have today for our entire lives, from the day we are born until the day we take our final breath of nourishment. Some government officials attempt to rob us of those freedoms. We will not let them.
I do not use the term “rob” lightly. We need to understand that our freedoms our personal. They are ours. They belong to us and we have to OWN THEM. “Amending” our Constitutional Rights is robbing us of the gift that our Founding Fathers bestowed upon us. Not okay.

In the debate of gun control, there are two very different sides. One side supports the idea of gun control, while the other side firmly believes in the Second Amendment, which guarantees law abiding citizens the right to keep and bear arms. Unfortunately, it really seems that the two sides have trouble seeing the other.
Many people are gun control advocates because they just do not understand the concept that proper gun training increases safety. Some people support gun control because they have been a victim or know a victim of a gun crime, so they view guns as unsafe. Still, others think that gun control is the way to go because “guns are unnecessary.” The fact of the matter is, is that several gun control supporters have taken a gun training course at Front Sight Firearms Training Institute with Four Weapons Combat Master, Dr. Ignatius Piazza, and they left supporting the Second Amendment. Why?

Many people support it. Others are against it. Still, others are sitting on the fence and can’t decide which direction to hop. Whatever your belief is, the fact remains that the Second Amendment was included in the Constitution of the United States for a reason and, as of now, it is still in tact. At the current time, our right to keep and bear arms is at risk. Why does government want, or think it has the right, to change something that has guaranteed The Land of the Free such an important liberty for over two centuries? This is not the “Land of the Somewhat Free,” or the “Land of the Free, at Government’s Discretion.” This is the “Land of the Free.” Period.
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” So many things are demanded in this one small sentence. It states that we have the right to own guns to protect ourselves and our country. It states that the fact that people are allowed to own guns is necessary to keep our security. It is not optional; it is necessary. And it states that as law abiding citizens of America, our right to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. It is our choice, as free Americans, to decide whether we want to practice those rights or not. But it is not our choice to decide whether or not our neighbor can, because the second we do that, we put our country and her security at risk.

The Second Amendment guarantees us the right to bear arms. This is because our Founding Fathers were smart men. When a gun is used by someone who does not quite understand how to handle it, the sense of security changes to danger and fear. This is the perfect example that shows why gun training is so important if you wish to practice your Second Amendment rights and have a gun in the house. Twenty year old Alaine Beasley would probably agree, knowing what she knows now. Well, that is, if she were still alive. Her husband for ten weeks, Joshua Beasely, accidentally shot her while playing a game. He said he had forgotten the shotgun was loaded when he pointed it at his wife and pulled the trigger. If he had had proper gun training, like the gun training offered at Front Sight Firearms Training Institute by Dr. Ignatius Piazza, Beasely might not be in the situation he is in now.
