Right now, I am sitting in a building surrounded by about fifty or sixty other people. I know about three people here and it is dark outside… and I left my glasses in the car. I do not know the area outside very well, as I am pretty far from home. Am I scared to leave and walk through the poorly lit and well hidden parking lot, even though I don’t know these people, I don’t know the area and I can barely see outside? Nah.
Many people in my situation might be a bit apprehensive about where they were. They wouldn’t want to walk to the car by themselves, especially if they were me: a five foot three, quite timid looking female. Dear Parents of Teenage Girls,
I used to be pretty confident in my self defense abilities. I have always been pretty strong, and while I had never had any formal self defense training, I knew that if I were to be attacked, I would be okay. Where was my adrenaline? Where was my strength? It apparently was shy that night because it sure wasn’t coming to my rescue. I cried that night, weakened by the fact that I had no way to protect myself against this monster.

Shooting a gun is the same during the day as it is at night, right?
It is frightening to hear how many people will actually answer this question with a strong, “Yes.” I am scared for those people to have to use a gun to defend their lives or the lives of their loved ones in the middle of the night. Using a gun at night or in low lighting is much, much different than using one in the middle of the day, or in a room where there is plenty of light. Standing at the open front door of the house, creeping around the edge, I see a man at the other end of the house holding a grenade. I quickly lean back, holding my gun at the ready position, thinking about what to do next. I ask my gun training instructor, “At what point can this guy see me?” He answers, “Well, with the way your foot is positioned, he can see you already. You better shoot him now before he throws that grenade.” Within three quarters of a second, I have stepped into the doorway, pointed in at the guy and shot him twice in the thoracic cavity. No one is blowing up my house today.
Where am I? I am in Pahrump, Nevada, at Dr. Ignatius Piazza’s gun training school called Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, taking a Four Day Defensive Handgun Training Course. Don’t worry… the guy I shot was just a paper target. But what if he was real?

Many people have the mindset that an attack or scary situation will not happen to them and do not see self defense training such as martial arts training, gun training or knife training as a necessity. They look at the people who think differently as paranoid or worry warts.
Other people believe that an attack can happen anywhere, at anytime and to anyone, and they want to get as much self defense training, gun training and knife training as possible. They look at the people who think differently as unprepared and naïve.

Concealed Carry Weapons Permits are not available in every state – yet.
