Dear Ignatius:
Thank you so much for your contribution to Teach For America.
Your gift will help us continue working to build the movement to
eliminate educational inequality in this country.
Each day, we see the impact that a national teacher corps can have
on our nation’s lowest-income schools and communities and on
the promising future leaders who dedicate themselves to the challenge
of eliminating the achievement gap between low-income students and
their wealthier peers. Since 1990, nearly 10,000 amazing young men
and women have joined our ranks to pursue this goal - amazing young
leaders like Michael Vea, a New York corps member and 5th grade teacher
at PS 128 in Washington Heights. Michael writes of one special student:
“…whenever I pose a question to the class or to her
directly, she’s got that look of determination and that desire
to succeed on her face, and that’s enough for me. I completely
believe in her abilities. Almost every night, I catch myself thinking
about how best to provide her with the important tools to become
successful academically. It’s tough, and really there’s
no quick fix…”
Michael is right. There is no quick fix. But in the past fourteen
years, our corps members and alumni have made great strides toward
our goal of eliminating educational inequity. Thanks in part to your
support of Teach For America, we can continue working in relentless
pursuit of our shared vision of educational opportunity for all.
Best regards,
